While most people would equate yellow maps of Canada to MapArt Publishing, there was another contender in this realm. This Southern gentlemen was something of an entrepreneur and in the mid 1970s forged a road map promotion that promoted his growing number of Fried Chicken restaurants.
Designed in 1976 by Rolph McNally inc (we’re proud to have folks on the MapArt staff who actually worked on this BTW) the Kentucky Fried Chicken map of Ontario is an up to (that) date road functional map that highlighted every restaurant location by placing the Colonels face on it.
Hard to miss.
A clever promotion for millions of day-tripping Canadian families who would be reminded whilst they travel that finger lickin’ goodness was always nearby.
While we’d recommend not using it for travel or locating KFCs nowadays (chances are some of them have moved in the last 42 years) , it is a wonderful curio that we’re happy to now have in our map library.
